Guys today we are going to discuss one of the latest and most mushrooming song of a leading American rock band which formed in Los Angeles in 1983, i.e., Red Hot Chili Peppers, also abridged to “The Chili Peppers“ or commonly known as “RHCP“.
Red Hot Chili Peppers sold over 80 million records worldwide and thus have become one of the best-selling bands of all the time. The band have been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards and won 6 of them. The RHCP’s song we are going to discuss today is the 1st single from their 11th studio album, The Getaway. Can you guys guess the song?
Yeah, it is the RHCP Song | Dark Necessities which became the band’s 13th No.-1 single on the Alternative Songs chart. It was set to release on May 2, 2016, but released 3 days later that is on May 5, 2016. The music video was released on June 16, 2016. The genre of this wonderful song is Funk rock and Alternative rock.
The 5:02 minutes long song includes:
The music video of Dark Necessities is directed by Olivia Wilde(Hollywood actress) who has limited credits in directing. The video release was first announced by Chad Smith on May 31, 2016, but was released through the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Facebook page on June 16, 2016.
The music video features:
These actors were seen skating around abandoned streets, a grocery store, and the Los Angeles river, interspersed with the band playing the song.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote the song in the studio with the producer Danger Mouse and finally sent it on to Anthony Kiedis to pen the lyrics. It is well known that when you fall in love with the piece of music that you hear but you have no idea of what you’re supposed to do with it as a vocalist; just doesn’t make sense, the timing is weird, also the melodies are weird. But with the RHCP Song | Dark Necessities, Kiedis knew what to do with the song for it to be beautiful and great. He knew about his part very well so he went to Hawaii and jot down the lyrics for it.
The RHCP Song | Dark Necessities speaks on the beauty of our dark sides that no one can see, i.e., how much creativity, growth and light actually comes out of those difficult exertions that we have on the inside of our minds.
Red Hot Chili Peppers admitted that they had an unusually difficult experience making this song as they wrote 20-30 songs which were all ready to go and when they thought that it is going to happen, Flea broke his arm badly while he went to snowboarding. This made it a bit of hindrance for the bass and piano man. So they re-planned everything but then they didn’t have a producer and they were just sort of lost in space with all these songs. These things can be lo and behold, and when all the dust cleared Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, came to light and said ‘Let’s go make a record’. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were like ‘Great, we have all these songs’ and he was like ‘Leave those there, let’s go write new songs in the studio’. So the process began over again.
About the album artwork for The Getaway, Anthony Kiedis said “Normally we get a little more high brow artsy, and this just felt extremely warm and human, even though it’s animals, and it’s also us. Chad is the bear, Josh is the girl, Flea is the raccoon, and me as the funny little raven out front.”

So, the Dark Necessities is an amazing record, which you will not be able to get it out of your head once you have heard it. It’s little different from their recent works but it’s different in a good way. This song tone wise resembles Coldplay’s songs but the RHCP stamps their signature bass overtones which are unique to RHCP.
